The current Pakistani TV shows are a far cry from the usual saas-bahu saga that once ruled the country’s television industry. Today, it’s all about quality content, a good storyline, and layered characters. The shows may not get the same limelight as other dramas across the border. But they surely appeal to the audience and keep them glued to their television sets. Here are Pakistan’s top eight TV shows that are worth binge-watching.

Dastaan
This TV show is based on a novel by Razia Butt and is set during the country’s partition and independence. It revolves around the story of Hassan, played by Fawad Khan, and Bano, played by Sanam Baloch, who fight for their identity, honor, and dignity. Shot across various locations with a huge star cast, Dastaan is a perfect blend of drama and intrigue.

Humsafar
Telecasted on HUM TV, this show is a love triangle between three characters. Khirad and Ashar are under pressure to marry each other, but Sara, Ashar’s best friend, is quite upset with the decision as she is in love with him. The plot revolves around romance, jealousy, and, ultimately, forgiveness which conquers all.

Zindagi Gulzar Hai
This show revolves around Kashaf, a hardworking girl from a middle-class family who lands a scholarship to a prestigious university. Her parents have separated, and she has biased views towards men and other classes. Life changes when she meets Zaroon at university, and they have a love-hate relationship. The show is aired on HUM TV. Its realistic acting, drama, and gripping storyline make this one of Pakistan’s top TV shows.

Alif
Alif is based on Umera Arshad’s best-selling novel. This emotional drama gained quite a lot of attention after it was revealed that Hamza Ali Abbasi, the show’s lead actor, would be returning to screen after a long gap. Telecasted on Geo Entertainment, this TV program is based on a spiritual element that certainly enthralls the audience.

Ranjha Ranjha Kardi
Directed by Kashif Nisar, this show tells an unusual story of a sweeper’s daughter, Noori, and a mentally-challenged man, Bhoola. The plot also talks about taboo topics like marital abuse and other psychological challenges a woman has to undergo.

Ehd-e-Wafa

This show especially connects to youngsters as it revolves around pursuing one’s dreams, friendship, honesty, and commitment. It also touches upon patriotism and has a slightly military-inspired plot. The program airs on HUM TV and PTV Home.

Khaas
This TV show begins with a typical storyline of a married couple, their fights, and differences. However, it soon progresses to cover marital relationships and topics often not talked about in public. Khaas also touches upon woman empowerment and inspires all suppressed women in marriage to take a stand, even if it goes against customs. The program is also marked by an excellent script and well-defined characters.

Mere Paas Tum Ho
So much was the popularity of this TV show that its last episode was aired in cinemas. Mere Pass Tum Ho is a story of a married woman who is dissatisfied with her husband because he is not rich.
